Meet Danielle, Owner & Maker Behind Sparrow Soaps!
Hello, I’m Danielle, owner, soap maker, box packer, product tester, floor sweeper, social-media poster and the person you’re probably going to talk to if you call Sparrow Soaps.
Sparrow Soaps is a small-batch goat milk soap and body care company in Putnam, Connecticut, but somewhere along the way it became so much more than just soap.
I never set out with some grand plan to own a soap shop. My background was actually in child raising and landscaping/tree work. I’ve always loved being outside, working with my hands and creating something I could stand back and look at when the day was done. Turns out, making soap isn't all that different. Although it smells considerably better.
Today, I handcraft our goat milk soaps in small batches, just 28 bars at a time, along with many of the body products you'll find in our shop. I still get excited cutting into a fresh loaf of soap. I still love packing an online order for someone across the country. And I especially love when someone walks through our front door and says, “I've been driving by forever and finally stopped!”
Sparrow has always been rooted in faith. Matthew 10:29–31 reminds us that not one sparrow is forgotten by God, and neither are you. That message has become the heartbeat of this business: you are seen, you are loved, and you are worth more than many sparrows.
My faith, my family and my belief in taking care of ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually; find their way into everything I do here. Sometimes that means making really good soap. Sometimes it's slipping a prayer card into an order with a little reminder note from me. Sometimes it's encouraging somebody to get outside and move their body. And sometimes it's simply standing behind the counter talking with someone who needed a friendly face that day.
A Little Bit of Our Story
Sparrow Soaps didn't become what it is today because of one person. It was built through friendship, family, farming, faith, a lot of hard work and quite a few unexpected turns along the way.
Sue and Michelle where an important part of Sparrow's story and helped shape this little company into what you see today. As life has brought new seasons and changes, Sparrow Soaps is now owned and operated by me, Danielle. I will always be grateful for the people who helped build its foundation and for the customers who keep believing in us through every chapter.
And this chapter?
I'm pretty excited about it.
You'll find me at our shop at 350 Kennedy Drive in Putnam, Connecticut, probably making something, wrapping something, talking too much, or convincing myself I don't need to create another new scent!
Come visit during shop hours and on Mondays and Tuesdays, if the flag is outside, come on in. I'm probably there making soap anyway.
